Profile

Jane Knyvett

Artist Statement

I have a strong commitment to figurative sculpture, within two distinctly different genres. Figures in settings reveal broader aspects of human nature and the human condition. I use a narrative approach aiming for humour and irony with an emphasis on pathos. The settings are largely cast in bronze with an occasional use of other material, like glass. The aim is not a moralistic one, rather it is a sly poke at the soft underbelly of our culture.
They are designed to be discovered by surprise in unusual places around domestic and suburban settings.

The other genre is portrait sculpture which has been described in more detail on the portrait page of this website.
